All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace
«All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace» is a theatrical interpretation of Richard Brautigan's 1967 poem of the same name, which describes a utopian future with cybernetic meadows and forests in which machines and nature form a harmonious new world.
Today, machines, medicine and algorithms seem to be used primarily for social control and the disciplining of labour, rather than enabling us to enjoy new forms of freedom. So, is Brautigan's dream dead? Are we already living in a completely perverted version of it? Or does the freedom promised in his poem still harbour potential?
Following the performance on 2.6. there will be a discussion with the artists at 21:15.
Ezra Veldhuis and Bosse Provoost have been making art together at the interface of performance and installation art since 2018. Using shifts in light, snippets of sound and silence, they compose constantly changing spaces. The performers are often absorbed by these environments or sometimes remain completely absent. In 2021, Veldhuis and Provoost performed SUN-SET at auawirleben.
Ezra Veldhuis and Bosse Provoost are part of Bring a Friend as a nominating artits. As part of this format, they curated Marieke&Sophia Guilty of Love, which is shown at Schlachthaus Theatre on 24. & 25.5.
Easy Read
Today, many things are done by machines and computers. This makes people freer and they have more time for other things. But machines also control a lot of things. This limits the freedom. The play by Ezra and Bosse deals this topic in images, light, music and movement, but without text.

Die Dampfzentrale ist rollstuhlgängig. Es gibt Treppenlifte für ins Foyer, in den Turbinensaal und zu den WCs. Der*die Access Friend hilft Ihnen gerne beim Bedienen der Lifte oder Sie benützen den Eurokey. Das Theater verfügt über ein barrierefreies WC. Wenn Sie mit einem Rollstuhl kommen, melden Sie sich bitte vorgängig bei uns, damit wir Ihnen einen entsprechenden Platz reservieren können: checkin@auawirleben.ch
Am 1.6. nach der Vorstellung gibt es auch einen barrierefreien Shuttle zur Vorstellung von «Arch» im Zentrum Markus. Der Shuttle steht nach der Vorstellung vor der Dampfzentrale.

In der Dampfzentrale hat es vor, nach und während der Vorstellung eine*n Access Friend. Diese Person trägt eine beschriftete violette Weste. Wenn man Fragen zur Barrierefreiheit hat, kann man sich an diese Person wenden.
