Place Tojo Theater Reitschule

Duration 10min

Thursday 11.5. 17:30 - 23:00 | Friday 12.5. 17:30 - 23:00

Meet the tiniest squatters of the Reitschule! The ones who were here before we were and will stay when we’ve all left. The tiniest life that lives in the puddle in front of the door, in the sofa backstage at Tojo, in the wine that’s served at Sous Le Pont, and that grows slowly and discreetly on the walls. They may be invisible and tiny, but their impact is larger than life. They provide the air we breath in and created all the soil. And they serve us with  delights such as coffee, Emmentaler, chocolat, bread and beer.
In Microbial Cinema, micro-organisms take the stage. This short movie shows the inhabitants of the Reitschule that Britt Bakker encountered with her microscope.

Britt Bakker is also our guest with Microbial Sights - Tour. The two events can be easily combined.

Britt Bakker studied theatre at the School of Arts in Ghent and works in various Belgian and Dutch companies, including productions by Ontroerend Goed. Her own projects mix art and science. Britt devotes much of her life to microbiology through research, gardening, baking sourdough bread, growing mushrooms and sitting in front of the microscope all night. With her partner she started a cidery, where natural, local craft cider is made by wild yeast.

«Microbial Sights» is part of the Bring a Friend format. In 2022, we started an attempt to question and soften our role as gatekeepers in the curation process. We asked two of our invited companies to nominate artists from their own local area for our programme, who have not toured much internationally. Britt Bakker was invited by Ontroerend Goed, who are presenting Funeral at aua this year.
