AUAWIRLEBEN 2012: FUTURE MEMORIES
How will we be remembered? A society of control in a crisis and on the breach of an ‹Occupy›-turnaround. The next generation, the one after that and after that and even further off, what will they find remarkable? Maybe they’ll know us as the diverse species with the one common gesture that suggests a strong relationship to gadgets: a gentle touch of the fingertip.
How do we reflect on the future? Do we even reflect on a future that is further away than our own pension, the next step in our career, the next holiday trip, the next credit, dad’s birthday next week, the meeting tomorrow, the important phone call in five minutes? And don’t forget to buy cigarettes! I’ll do that after the dentist’s. We only stop remembering our basic needs, eating, drinking, sleeping, sex with dementia. We are reminded about everything else by our online-memory, iPhone, laptop, Google, Facebook. Something is always bleeping. And if we can’t deal with it right now, we stuff it into a folder for later. We get the facts worth knowing beyond from some wiki – for example the original meaning of ‹crisis›; news are delivered to our home computer from around the world and around the clock: A big jumble of political, economic and ecological crises, the crisis of the crisis, up and down like Federer’s match results. Well, ok, make that: down.
The only solution against the rising inflation rate of the crisis’ output is the delete button; the next crisis will come anyway. Which future are we living in? Theatre reacts to the overdose with its own glance on the presence and stages memories, fictional and documentary: how we, today, once imagined our future, and what may become of this world – Future Memories.
AUA is going in its 30th round in 2012. Come and celebrate with us! Our champagne is the programme: 15 productions and 3 concerts, from Canada, Belgium, Holland, England, Italy, Austria, Germany and Switzerland, are on their way to Berne.
